Altenalp, Alpstein, Appenzell

Altenalp Alp, situated at 1,600 meters above sea level, is accessible exclusively on foot. The milk of the approximately 16 horned cows and 35 Appenzeller goats is therefore processed directly on the alp in traditional manual labor.
Bruno and Gerlinde Neff-Stäbler have been managing Altenalp for almost 40 years. In the meantime, their successor Bruno Neff Junior is actively assisting them. The family spends the alpine summer with about 16 cows as well as about 50 cattle, 35 goats, pigs and chickens. All the milk from the horned cows and goats is processed into six different types of cheese. In addition, high-quality alp butter is produced in the wooden butter churn.

The charming alpine hut invites you to stay on the alp and enjoy delicious products from the alp. The cozy hay camp with a view of the mountains offers hikers, mountaineers and families a cozy place to spend the night, just like in the old days. The Neff family is looking forward to your visit on the Altenalp.
