Adelboden is located in the west of the Bernese Oberland, at the end of the Engstligental valley, which flows into the Kandertal valley near Frutigen. Adelboden lies at 1350 m above sea level, the highest point of the municipality is Grossstrubel at 3242 m above sea level ; the lowest point is in the Engstligental at 1045 m above sea level.
The vegetation is subalpine and alpine: the slopes are often wooded, the plateaus and terraces serve as alpine pastures.
The main part of the village is situated on a south-facing terrace above the Engstligental. However, the village also includes the farms of Ausserschwand, Boden, Gilbach, Hirzboden and Stigelschwand.
