Lac du Vieux Emosson

Lac du Vieux Emosson is located in the canton of Valais in the municipality of Finhaut. The first dam was built by the SBB in 1955.

In September 2014, an increase of the dam by 20 meters was completed. The capacity of the lake was thus doubled to 25 million m³. The larger capacity will be used for the Nant de Drance SA pumped storage plant, for which Lac du Vieux Emosson forms the upper basin and Emosson Reservoir the lower basin.

The reservoir can be reached via Lac d'Emosson, about 300 meters below, or on foot from Vallorcine in France via the Col des Corbeaux mule track.
