Bad Ragaz

Bad Ragaz is located in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley between Sargans and Chur, at the foot of the Pizol. As early as the mid-13th century, people seeking recovery made a pilgrimage to the abbey of Pfäfers in the Tamina Valley, which flows into the Rhine Valley near Bad Ragaz, to recover in the thermal waters.

The physician and philosopher Paracelsus, who was the first spa doctor in Bad Pfäfers from 1535, proved the healing power of the thermal water. This was the beginning of spa tourism. In 1716, the earliest baroque bathhouse in Switzerland was built below the Benedictine monastery at Pfäfers.
